Ingredients

- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 vanilla bean, split and seeds scraped
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a saucepan, heat milk, cream, and vanilla bean seeds over medium heat until steaming.
- In a bowl, whisk sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt.
- Slowly pour the hot milk mixture into the dry ingredients while whisking.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in chopped chocolate and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour into serving dishes and chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- Use high-quality dark chocolate for the best flavor.
- If you don’t have a vanilla bean, substitute with 1 tsp vanilla bean paste.
- Serve with whipped cream or a sprinkle of cocoa powder.
